“Overblown and dramatic!” You judge from the outside
But I Question this godless, empty vacuum
Waiting for something to save me
A religious residue from a life left behind
You say, “It must be hard to find anyone, when.”
“When I’m still living in limbo with him.” I reply, my heart
Sinking again.
If one more helpful stranger tells me
What I already know
This feeling will get deeper,
The time, longer
So I dream of my own fictitious ending.
Keep questioning Cheryl. It quite obviously brings out the best in your poetry.
Thank you Mike! 🙂
Damn you’re good
‘this godless empty vaccuum’ is a great line, superb poem 🙂
Thanks Kieran 😀
Cheryl – raw and loved and I have been there years ago now …but it took me back…and memories are precious no matter what the type…thank you
You’re very welcome, it means a lot to me that you read this, thank you. 🙂
ironic – i live on the same street awaiting the same delivery but I’m sure conversation over coffee would stir very interesting cream. Does the cat blink … nap … yawn? Would you say her staring occupies an unhealthy portion of kitty time? Maybe she just finds you very interesting & pleasing to look at. Thank you for visiting my vowels, Cheryl. I look fwd to wading in yours. – tim
oops – i didn’t actually say anything, did i? The poem … it’s painfully lovely, Cheryl. – tim
Cheryl – I remembered leaving a comment & didn’t see it – figured I hadn’t hit ‘post’ or something but hopped back to see’em waiting. I hope they didn’t come across weird. I won’t be offended if you just delete them. – tim
Hi Tim, sorry about that. I just visited my dashboard and found a backlog of comments, all now published. Thanks for taking time to read, my apologies again. Cheryl
well now I do feel goofy. 🙂
Ah no, the same thing’s happened to me, no worries. (I should visit my comments page more often) 😀
wow this is your best yet, very emotional and relateable
Thank you 🙂
nice poem
Thank you 🙂
Cheryl,
What a haunting and insightful piece. Your depth of awareness and how your writing presents your emotions in such a well crafted and lyrical way is stunning. Bravo!
Thank you for following my blog too. “Beyond The Cracked Window” it is very appreciated.
Stephen.
Hi Stephen, you’re welcome and thank you so much for visiting, I’m glad you enjoyed reading. It’s good to meet you, Cheryl.
This poem is lovely. I especially like the line “If one more helpful stranger tells me What I already know This feeling will get deeper,”. This rings true.
Thanks, Alice, yes it’s happened and is very cutting. They think they’re helping but it has the opposite effect. This was a very cathartic poem for me. Thanks for reading. Cheryl
I’ve been there as well. Probably on both sides of that fence.
This is beautiful! I love its depth and how you hit the feeling’s nail on the head. 🙂
Thank you so much 🙂
Hi Cheryl. Thank you for liking my poem ‘Last Working Day’. Best Wishes, The Foureyed Poet.
You’re welcome 😀
very thought provoking u have my attention very goood writing amazing art also
Hi Rodney, thank you 🙂
Mmmm, great poem. I really like (and know) that notion of ‘unrecognizable me’ and not knowing ourselves, especially in a certain relationship. Perhaps I’m reading some of that into it, but that’s what I got and I really liked your poem.
Hi Jon, thank you.
Thank you for a great post. I loved it!! Please keep it coming.
Thanks for reading, glad you liked it!
I really enjoyed this poem, it connected with me very well and the language is very fluid. Good job, keep up the good work 🙂
Thank you! 😀
Real emotion; appreciated. Well put together.
Thank you.
I think the last line is my favorite. I enjoy your choice of words. Do you ever submit your poetry for publication, or do you post some on your blog and save others for submission? Thank you.
Hi, thank you. I’ve not had any poetry published yet, as it’s something I’m doing on the side (besides short stories and novels) I’ve been concentrating on publishing those rather than these. Thanks for reading, I appreciate it.
Cheryl, no matter were you are personally for the rest of your life, Never stop writing ! You have a gift. THANKYOU for sharing… The Barron.
That means a lot. Thank you 🙂
Hello- I wanted to say Hi and thank you for visiting my blog and following – this is the piece I see first and boy oh boy, I know this. I know this so well. Wow – 🙂
I can deeply relate. To me writing and reading are escapes where I get to be anyone from anywhere, possibly with the strength to be what I wish I was.
Very well written.
Thank you 🙂
This is good.
The flow of your words is refreshing and real.
Thanks for stopping by 🙂
Truthful reminder.
Thank you for the follow and like on my post. I really like your writing, it’s beautiful :). Jo x
so much in its depth, thank you for stopping by my blog
You’re welcome and thank you too 🙂
“It must be hard to find anyone, when.
When I’m still living in limbo with him.”
So perfectly expressed.
Thank you.
Love love this!!! Not to mention that has to be the best title EVER!!!
Hi Highie, thank you 😀
Love love this! Not to mention the best title EVER!!!
Thank you Hughie 🙂
Emotional but controlled–well done.
Thank you 🙂
You had us at the title! Sad and haunting!
Thank you 🙂
I recognise…. the feeling and the being in your poem. Wondering if the ‘fictional suicide’ of the unrecognizable self, could be turned into the birth of the recognizable self? 🙂
I’m still working on that one 🙂
Keep it up – it is hard work. 🙂
😀
Love the last line/title. It reminds me of Mark Twain’s comment “Fiction is a lie, and good fiction is the truth inside the lie.” We are what we think we are- help hinder; hinder help – hence the continual round of the heroines journey to the underworld and back – really nice poem. Thanks
Thanks Christine 🙂

You are reading my mind, Cheryl. Dammmmm. Spooky and yet universally anecdotal, too. I am super glad I clicked on your avatar this morning, and happened upon what must be a new facet to your blogging. This is exactly my cup of tea!! I am going to go read some leaves, now…
Hi Charron, thank you 😀
I really, really like this.
Thank you 🙂
I’ve had this experience before. A great way to express your feelings. “A religious residue from a life left behind…:
Thank you 🙂
Beautiful poem. I shall contemplate some of the things you said, especially the “helpful stranger” bit. That speaks volumes to me. Hmm.
Thank you for this haunting piece. I look forward to reading more.

Thanks for reading, it means a lot to me. Cheryl.
I had to read this again, Cheryl, just great 🙂
Excellent….from start to finish!
Hi Mary, thank you! 🙂
Wow, you’re so talented, Cheryl. Beautiful written, painful, but beautiful. Pawkisses 🙂
Thank you so much 😀 I hope you have a great weekend.
….religious residue–I completely understand, and so much of the pain felt that saccharine platitudes and shallow reassurances do nothing for. Thank you for this piece, for sharing the deepest parts of you with the rest of us.
Thank you 🙂
